Thank you for your interest in our program. The Department of Computer
and Information Science offers a strong undergraduate program leading
to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. In addition, a program
in Computer Engineering is offered in collaboration with the Electrical
and Computer Engineering Department. Our program provides students with
a broad and rigorous foundation in Computer Science. In addition, students
choose from a large set of challenging advanced courses on topics such as
databases, networking, computer graphics, computer and network security,
software engineering, distributed systems, web technology, plus many others.
Strong students may also apply for participation in the Honors College and
Accelerated BS/MS Programs at Polytechnic.
Students can pursue independent study and research with faculty members
that are nationally and internationally recognized in their fields.
In addition to significant research programs in Databases, Algorithms,
Software Engineering, Networks, and Visual Information Processing,
the department has particular strengths in the Computer Security area.
Polytechnic was among the first institutions nationwide recognized as a
Center of Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the
National Security Agency, and students taking a set of approved course can
qualify for NSA Information Systems Security Certification.
Research and education programs in the department are supported by over $3
million of annual outside funding from government agencies, industry, and
foundations.
