North East DB/IR Day - Fall 2009
The Fall 2009 North East DB/IR Day was held
on the campus of NYU Poly in Downtown Brooklyn, New York, on Friday,
10/23/2009. Thanks for everybody who attended the event.
We would also like to acknowledge our sponsors, IBM and Google, for their
generosity, and the three invited speakers, Kevin Chang, Zack Ives, and Graham
Cormode, for their great talks.
The Best Student Poster prize was awarded
to Julia Stoyanovich from Columbia for her poster titled "Rank-Aware Clustering
for Structured Datasets". The second prize was given to Jinyun Yan from
Rutgers for her poster titled "A Rephrase Game To Test Search Engines
Semanticity". Congratulations to both of them!
The date and location of the next DB/IR Day
is not decided yet. Please contact Ken Ross at Columbia if you are located in
the area and interested in organizing and hosting this event.
