Abstract

What have you been searching lately?

With so much data on the Web, while we often look for various "stuff", current search engines take us only to pages and only one page at a time.

Towards "data-aware" search over the Web as a massive database, we face the challenges of integrating data from everywhere. The key barrier boils down to the classic "impedance mismatch" between structured queries (which we desire) and unstructured data (which exists on the Web)-- over the Web scale. I will report the insights and lessons learned in our MetaQuerier and the WISDM projects at the University of Illinois-- where we explore the dual approaches of bringing data to match queries, and vice versa. I will demo our prototypes and their productization at Cazoodle.
