Interested in getting a PhD in Computer Science? How to apply, How to get in, and What to expect

An information session hosted by Profs. John Iacono and Torsten Suel Monday, May 2, at 12 noon in JAB 678

If you are a current Poly undergraduate or MS student, and you are interested in maybe going for a PhD in Computer Science at some point, this is your opportunity to learn more about doctoral studies and to ask questions to Poly faculty who have already gone through the whole process. We will first give a general overview and try to resolve common questions and misconceptions about PhD study, and then answer your questions.

Note that this is not an advertising session for PhD study at Poly. While we are always interested in strong students for our PhD programs, it is often a good idea to consider moving to another institution for PhD study, to get exposed to new ideas and other areas. Here, we are just trying to give general advise and answer questions. Getting into a good PhD program requires planning well in advance, so if you intend to apply for PhD programs in Fall 2006 or later, now is the time to get informed and start planning.

No RSVP required - just show up. Feel free to send specific questions you have to suel@poly.edu before the meeting, so we can make sure to answer those.

In case of hot weather, ice cream will be served!
