Three faculty members in the CIS Department, Profs. Yi-Jen Chiang, Gleb Naumovich, and Torsten Suel, have received prestigious NSF Career grants from the National Science Foundation, thus joining the departments three other recent Career awardees, Profs. Delis, Hellerstein, and Memon. The grant to Prof. Chiang was awarded for work on practical I/O-efficient techniques in geometric computing and visualization. Prof. Naumovich received the award to support his work on improving the scalability of finite state verification techniques for checking properties of concurrent software systems. Prof. Suel's proposal focused on algorithmic techniques for computing with massive data sets arising in the context of databases and the World Wide Web.
