Polytechnic has opened four new state-of-the-art computer science laboratories for undergraduate students in the CS program. The 7,000-square-foot laboratories are located on the second floor of Rogers Hall, and are focused on software engineering, visualization and digital media, parallel and distributed processing, and computer system integration and security, respectively. The new labs contain a mix of Pentium-based machines running Windows and Linux and Sun UltraSparc workstations running Solaris.
The Computer and Information Science program at Polytechnic has 1,100 students and is the largest program at the school. The labs will be used to support a variety of advanced courses in areas such as software engineering, computer graphics, distributed computing, operating systems, databases, networking, and security as well as in research opportunities for senior undergraduate students.
