Three new tenure-track faculty members are joining our Department for the Fall 2001 semester. The new faculty, Xiaolin Wu, Joshua Gluckman, and John Iacono, will further strengthen and broaden our existing research strengths in the image processing, computer vision, and algorithms areas.
Prof. Wu is an internationally recognized expert in image compression and image processing techniques who is joining our department from the University of Western Ontario. He has been active in international standardizations of multimedia data compression algorithms. His current research projects include digital cinema, rate-distortion optimization and joint source-channel coding for multimedia communications.
Prof. Gluckman is a recent PhD graduate from Columbia University working in computer vision, image processing, and pattern recognition. His dissertation research at Columbia focused on novel imaging cameras designed to help solve some fundamental problems in Computer Vision.
Prof. Iacono is joining our department from Rutgers University, where he completed his PhD in the area of algorithms and data structures. His main research interests are in data structures and computational geometry.
