Polytechnic University has been awarded a ITR Grant from the National Science Foundation to conduct research in the emerging area of peer-to-peer computing. The title of the grant is "P2P Networking Theory", and the proposed work focuses on theoretical problems in the context of peer-to-peer systems used for tasks such as file sharing, distributed storage, and utility computing.
The Principal Investigator of the grant is Prof. Keith Ross, who recently joined Poly as the first Leonard J. Shustek Chair in Computer Science; the other members of the research team are Profs. Torsten Suel (Poly), Dan Rubenstein and David Yao (Columbia), and Micah Adler (UMass Amherst). The total value of the grant is $2.8M, with half of the funds being awarded for research to be conducted at Poly.
