Shustek Chair and Faculty Positions

The Computer and Information Science Department at Polytechnic University invites nominations and applications for the Leonard Shustek endowed chair. We seek candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level with active and successful research programs in distributed systems, mobile computing or computer security. Exceptional candidates in other areas will also be considered. The Chair will be expected to maintain an innovative research program that will attract outstanding students and faculty, to help provide leadership for the department's research activities, and to acquire substantial external funding.

In addition, the department expects to have openings for faculty at all levels. Areas of particular interest include architecture, bioinformatics, database systems, distributed computing, operating systems, networking, and software engineering, but strong candidates in other areas will also be considered. Candidates must be outstanding researchers and teachers and must have a PhD by the appointment date.

Polytechnic University ("Brooklyn Poly") is located in Brooklyn, New York, 10 minutes from lower Manhattan, close to major companies in the financial, telecommunications, and computer industries, as well as a myriad of cultural attractions. Current active areas of research in the department include algorithms, computational geometry, database systems, graphics and visualization, information security, machine learning, multimedia and computer vision, software engineering, web information retrieval, and wireless information systems. Faculty research is supported by numerous NSF grants, including six current or recent CAREER grants, and by funding from other federal agencies, New York State, and industry. The CIS department enjoys close working relationships with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Center for Advanced Technology in Telecommunications. The department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees.
