Description
In this project, we quantify the potential gains of hybrid CDN-P2P for two of the leading CDN companies. We develop a novel methodology to map the topologies of CDN networks. Then we use two real-world traces, a VoD trace and a large-scale software update trace, to evaluate schemes where ISP-friendly P2P distribution schemes working in conjunction with the CDNs to localize traffic within regions of ISPs. We find that hybrid CDN-P2P can significantly reduce the cost of content distribution, even when peer sharing is localized within ISPs and future localized within regions of ISPs; thus, hybrid CDN-P2P distribution can economically satisfy the exponential growth of Internet video content without placing an unacceptable burden on regional ISPs.
Experiment
We mainly perform following experiment:
Charting CDN networks
Classifying ISP-friendly traffic
Comparing the benifit of hybrid CDN-P2P with pure CDN
Main tools
CDN network charting: dig, traceroute, HTTP query, PlanetLab
Data process: MySQL
Programming language: Java, Perl, SQL, Matlab
